Today’s orthodontic practice faces many new challenges: increased competition from general dentists, corporate dental centers and other “aesthetic” specialists. This changing landscape can be difficult to navigate without a sound strategy to increase case starts and remain competitive.
- Understand monetary forces or “Monetary Mechanics” associated with profitability and develop strategies for improvement
- Identify the competitive landscape and make necessary adjustments to capitalize on opportunities
- Increase case starts and increase profit per patient (efficiency)
- Learn the impact of case fee adjustments and the role of aesthetics in orthodontic treatment
- Differentiate your practice from the competition
- Strategize for long term growth and stability of your practice
Regardless of how long you have been practicing, this course will provide valuable insight to improving the patient experience and maximizing profitability in a challenging market
Darryl has lectured at orthodontic study club meetings around the country, as well as orthodontic resident programs and society meetings. In addition, he conducts in-office training at more than 20 private practices annually.

8:30am – 12:30pm Dr. Patrick Turley: “Early Treatment of the Class III Malocclusion with Facemask and Palatal Expansion: Short and Long Term Effects”
One of the most significant changes in early orthodontic treatment over recent decades has involved management of the Class III malocclusion. Facemask therapy has supplanted chin cup and other orthopedic/orthodontic methods as the most common and predictable early treatment procedure. This lecture will address how facemask therapy works, the benefits of palatal expansion, optimal treatment timing, what happens following Phase I therapy, and the long term benefits of early treatment.
- Attendees will be able to describe the mechanism by which the facemask corrects a Class III malocclusion
- Attendees will be able to determine the effectiveness of facemask therapy at different ages
- Attendees will be able to discuss the benefits of palatal expansion in early Class III treatment.
- Attendees will be able to recognize patients less likely to be successful with facemask therapy.
Dr. Turley graduated from UCLA School of Dentistry and then attended the University of Washington in Seattle, where he was dual trained in both Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics. Dr. Turley was a full time professor at UCLA, including Chairman of the Orthodontic Department until 1997, when he entered private practice. Dr. Turley is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics. Dr. Turley presented the Edward H. Angle Lecture at the 2007 AAO Annual Session and the John Valentine Mershon Memorial Lecture at the 2014 AAO Annual Session. He has lectured in over 30 states and 20 foreign countries.
